PET Sorter

ENOS Engineering's rejection system for returnable PET bottles — purpose-built to work with the ENOS sniffer, it diverts every contaminated or still-capped bottle off the line and onto a reject accumulator that keeps it upright, so nothing tips or spills.

What it does

The PET Sorter is a flexible rejection system engineered for and packaged with the ENOS sniffer. Unlike rejectors adapted from glass-bottle lines, it is designed specifically for refillable plastic bottles: it precisely verifies, rejects and removes questionable bottles while keeping them upright, and adjusts to different bottle sizes without changing the conveyor speed. It can run with the ENOS, alongside other inspection equipment, or on its own.

How it sorts

Bottles enter through "S"-curve guide rails that move each one into the sampling lane and space it slightly for the sniffer. An optical sensor array then tracks every bottle's position as drive belts carry it toward the diverter, gripping it above and below its centre of gravity for precise control. If the ENOS flags a bottle as contaminated or still capped, an air-powered diverter swings out and pushes it onto the reject conveyor; clean bottles continue down the line.

Gentle reject handling

The reject accumulator is a series of progressively slower table-top conveyors that decelerate flagged bottles and dampen their stop, so a full, contaminated bottle is far less likely to topple and spill. The PET Sorter verifies that each reject actually happened by checking the diverter position before the next bottle arrives; if a reject fails, upstream and downstream bottle stops clamp the line until an operator clears it.

Built for the line

  • Installs on existing lines; the reject conveyor and accumulator can be supplied as a complete, ready-to-run unit.
  • Switches between bottle sizes in a few steps without changing conveyor speed.
  • Reject conveyor speed stays synchronized with the line speed.
  • Tracks every bottle and confirms each reject actually happened.
  • Clear visual and tower-light fault signalling.
  • Available in left-hand and right-hand reject layouts to suit the line.
